We never had a java port, so that makes this part easier (I might create one in the process though). I did a port for 3.6 beta quite some time ago (you can find it in the Patches section of the zeroc forum), but that was before the move to github. Github download is quite easy thanks to GH_ support in Mk, let's see what other changes in the build system might complicate that. As soon as I have something that builds, I'll share the patches with you for testing.
