The '-quit' switch causes xv to, well, quit once it finishes drawing the picture. The '-rmode' switch is the root mode. It specifies whether to fit picture to root screen, max aspect fix, center without changing size, tile, integer tile, integer tile center, etc. I believe 5 is center tiled. The xv docs are in /usr/X11R6/share/doc/xv. I never thought to put that in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xserver, but I have used that type of command line all of the time in user .xinitrc's or .xsession's. -- Crist J.
