The configuration of the kernel doesn't seem to matter, as long as the kernel is looking for a parallel port, and the parallel port is there, it freezes. This applies for both with and without the printer. I had initially hoped that hooking the printer up to the parallel port might put a stop to this. I'm considering trying to use the printer via USB.
