Apparently, this is not a FreeBSD-related bug - gentoo users are
experiencing the same problems after upgrading gtk to 2.8.9. (I've seen
it myself while visiting a friend of mine)

It seems that Anjuta will work with gtk+ 2.8.8 but will crash when using
gtk+ 2.8.9.

Anyway, this bug has been entered into gnome's bugzilla:
