GCC revs have been known to be unstable with higher optimization levels or architecture-specific (-m) optimizations. We do not recommend that you default your system to anything other then the basic -O optimization. Also, -O2 has historically been safe but recent GCC revs seem to cause problems with it as well, especially on kernel compiles, and we do not recommend it be used as a default.'
