Okay, for starters, goto:
/var/log
...then run #more dmesg.today
and look at the bootup info. It shows the devices being loaded. Somewhere
toward the bottom, you should see "ad0:" and a description of your hard=
 disk.
If you don't see "acd0:" and description CDROM. then your CD-ROM is not
loading...

Try that first....
