Hi Sherri, As for the Windows documentation, install a Postscript Printer driver = under Windows and when you want to transfer Windows DOC or WRI format = documents to Unix print them to FILE as Postscript. Most WUSIWUG Unix = editors use Postscript as their basic document format. As for the rest, You might want to sit back and think about this a = little more.=20 My suggestion would be to get a second computer and install FreeBSD on = that. This way you can be more productive (in any given time frame). I = do not know why you want FreeBSD ( although you have picked the BEST = free OS in my opinion ), if it is due to the courses that you are taking = then you definitely need to consider the following: 1) Win95 is essentially a games OS, it is also very prone to crashing = when you least expect it, I strongly recommend that you switch to = Windows NT Workstation. (For stability, if for no other reason). 2) A separate computer (FreeBSD) for your course work (like programming = Unix, etc.) If you network the two machines together you can use X-Windows from the = NT side to access the FreeBSD box (thus eliminating the requirement for = a separate Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor). Or, if you do not need = graphics, use telnet. In setting everything up and getting them to work together, document = EVERYTHING. Depending upon the course you are taking you can submit the = documentation for extra credit . (A real consideration for a collage = student). If you are thinking of a career in the computer industry, = anything learned by doing this will directly apply to the 'real world', = thus giving you a well learned skill set, and knowledge of systems = integration. I encourage you to take this email to your councilor for further = discussion, as most collages do give credit for things like this. In all, I wish you good luck and a wonderful collage experience, = regardless of what your final career choice may be. Michael W. Akers M. Akers Enterprises Unix/NT Systems Administration and Systems Integration P.S. If you have any questions on this matter of dual systems, please = feel free to contact me directly. ---------- From: Shreela [SMTP:shreela@dcnet2000.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 07, 1999 1:08 PM To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Win on master/BSD on slave? If I set up win95 on my master HD 8.4G and my BSD on slave HD 3.2....will I have to do any partitioning of any kind? And would I need to bring up BSD from MS DOS7 (on master)? Do you plan on making any tutorials for this kind of set up if it turns out to be complicated? I am doing this for the first time. I have 32Mb RAM. Thanks if you can help, Sherri ps...my college gives out notes on windows floppies.....will I be able to bring them up in unix?
