The other option is to use fakecd
(http://cvs.samba.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/fakecd/), which uses a ld preload
hack to intercept IOCTL calls to the "cd rom drive".

Sorry, I don't know if the linux and FreeBSD cd rom ioctls are close
enough for this to work out of the box.
