To just view .doc files from the commandline, you can also try textproc/catdoc. Abiword (editors/abiword) can also edit Word files, but has difficulties with some documents that work fine with openoffice. I routinely exchange Powerpoint presentations (*.ppt) between Powerpoint and Openoffice with only minor problems. HTH, Christopher
