The only time it works through KDE is with "Test Sound" on the Sound System page. I have sound through arts in GAIM, by using artsplay. Using the arts API in GAIM does not work. I can get the system notifications to work by using artsplay (or any other audio player) as an external viewer. There is apparently no error messages logged when this happens.
