The disk has 2100 cyls, 16 heads, 63 sec/trk. The FreeBSD slice goes from cylinder 968 to 2100 and the root partition is from cylinder 968 to 1008. The making of the partitions, /dev, etc. goes fine from the boot diskette, but when it says remove the boot diskette to boot from the hard disk, it just doesn't work. The MBR asks which O/S do I want to boot from but only DOS works. As you can see, the root partition is below 1K cylinders. Is there a list of branded PC configurations available for which FreeBSD is known to work. I've seen the hardware list FAQ on the FreeBSD CD but, frankly, it's not up to much. Thanks for any help, Mike
