It is not necessary to create a bsdlabel and a partition within it for ZFS, but it ca= n be done if so desired. zfsboot(8) is the worst, of course. It instructs to create a bsdlabel with= in the slice, but the subsequent instructions are for installing ZFS to the sl= ice. So, the label is useless at best and harmful at worst.
