It's kinda hard to actually install -STABLE until you have the system up and going, unless you use one of the releg22 releases. I'd say, install 2.2.5, and (assuming you have a internet connection, of course), use cvsup to get the source for 2.2-STALBE (which BTW is now 2.2.5-STABLE) and at least remake your kernel, if not world.
