Well David, the very first place you'll want to visit is www.freebsd.org There is a manual/primer on writing FreeBSD device drivers. After you read it you will probably have some specific questions and answers to those can be found in mail archives for hackers mailing list or posting your question to the -hackers mailing list. One question you'll want to ask fairly soon is whether such an animal already exists. Good Luck!
