I saw this problem with my current configuration when I had a drive
that didn't like my configuration (parity off/on, or wide negotiation,
or one of those).  I got it to work by changing my configuration (I
believe I deactivated wide negotiation for the drive).  You may want
to check your SCSI configuration and play with it to see if you can
get it to recognize the drive (termination?).
