Since XFree86 isn't part of the FreeBSD world, nothing will happen when you do a make world. Your make.conf is already set to not rebuld XFree86. If you upgrade from CDROM, don't install the X on the CDROM, and you'll be fine. X may quit working, so you'll have to upgrade the port.
