They seem to work for me (on an amd64 no less, although you require some other patches to even get javaws to build on am amd64...). The unfortunate part of the patches is that they avoid the problem rather than fixing it. That is, they disable unicode and locale support for the configuration file rather than figuring out why its broken. If someone has to time to figure out why its broken that would be great.
