Your LinkSys probably isn't doing much in the way of packet filtering, so you can increase your security considerably and probably eliminate the LinkSys altogether. Certainly a good learning experience if you've never done this before. A caching DNS server is ideal to run on a gateway like this. Set it up as a development server if you do web and database development. Takes the load off your local machine if you're doing much database work. Or set it up as a local file server.
