the morning news:

a second rdump failed. and the hard disks did not seem busy during the
rdump. note that the system with the tape is a personal workstation with
few services, i.e. the disks are not being hammered.

i upgraded the asus p2b-ds flash bios. a local dump failed the same old
way.

i can not find a flash upgrade for the dec dlt2000 tape itself.

one thing i forgot to mention, this used to work. i.e. it was either the
change from 4.0-current to 3.3-stable or hardware rot. as i tried your
back-revved scsi_sa.c, i doubt the former.

i do not have a spare scsi controller. i can order one if folk think this
will likely solve it. (again note this used to work)

as it seems more and more like a hardware issue, i will chase this as an rma
through the digital/compaq maze after a bit more coffee.

randy
