I have fbsd on scsi-disks, and M$ on ide. (Has anybody a port for dBase?) I have set the scsi's not to start rotating on powerup, because they are external. Really external, not even in a box... So they don't make noise when in dos. The ide's also spin down, so because this message is written over network to the server nothing mecanic is rotating, except a very slow fan. Nice and quiet! Anyway, the scsi's start when probed, but the probe times out just before full speed is reached. Sometimes the boot procedes anyway, just giving a "scsi bus or device reset or power failure" warning, sometimes I have to reboot. Can the timeout of the probe be extended, perhaps could a spin-up be send during the probe?
