How long did you let it spin here?  It may have hit the bad blocks and the
kernel got confused; the SCSI card may eventually notice it and try to
unstick the system.  

If bad blocks are poking through, you need to verify that bad
sector remapping is enabled; if it is, then you are probably going to have
more problems.
