Don't know. It works for me. What shell are you using? What do you have under your terminal settings for Swap Backspace/Delete and Delete generates DEL/^H? I use tcsh, stty erase set to ^?, and Swap Delete/Backspace and Delete generates DEL/^H unchecked.
