These messages are harmless.  We use a permissive version of dbus, and
they wouldn't cause what you're seeing anyway.

This file shouldn't even exist.  All of FreeBSD's dbus configuration is
under /usr/local/etc.

Really?  I haven't seen proof of that.  See
http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/halfaq.html for more on
troubleshooting hal problems.
