Somewhere in the Chromium login dialog there's a checkbox or a button to skip synchronizing your chromium desktop with what's on Google's servers. Using this, I've managed to login correctly, and later found that there are options in Chromium settings to only synchronize certain parts, like History, Extensions, Bookmarks, etc. Chromium worked for me when I disabled synchronization of Extensions, leaving other parts enabled.
