I moved all the mail files to /usr/mail and sym-linked it to /var/mail. = No problems with space. I've given up on the 5.2 upgrade, now I'm trying a 4.8 - 4.9 upgrade and = the first attempt failed with an odd message - "Couldn't even extract the = bin distribution, consider this upgrade a failure". Anyone else ever seen this? Sounds like you're in a very similar situation to me :P In answer to the question, I would have thought so. If you're just interested in trying out 5.x for the heck of it (there isn't a specific reason for upgrading), you're probably better of installing it on a dev box perhaps - if that's possible. I'm amazed you have that many users but haven't managed to fill up /var yet with it being so small! > -----Original Message----- > From: lowell@be-well.no-ip.com [mailto:lowell@be-well.no-ip.com] On = Behalf > Of Lowell Gilbert > Sent: Wednesday, 11 February 2004 1:38 AM > To: Jez Hancock > Cc: Richard Beyer; freebsd-questions@freebsd.org > Subject: Re: Newbie Upgrading 4.8 - 5.2, filesystem full >=20 > Jez Hancock <jez.hancock@munk.nu> writes: >=20 > > On Tue, Feb 10, 2004 at 08:10:05PM +1100, Richard Beyer wrote: > > > Thanks Jez, > > >=20 > > > Here's my df -h > > > Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on > > > /dev/ad0s1a 126M 106M 9.4M 92% / > > > /dev/ad0s1f 252M 9.6M 222M 4% /tmp > > > /dev/ad0s1g 72G 2.7G 64G 4% /usr > > > /dev/ad0s1e 252M 51M 181M 22% /var > > > procfs 4.0K 4.0K 0B 100% /proc > > >=20 > > >=20 > > > It's an 80Gig HDD and I was using the sysinstall | upgrade | all | > include > > > ports > >=20 > > Seems odd that so much space is taken up by / - perhaps under 5.x = more > > space is required?
