What about if we go a little further?  Perhaps we can have
/pub/FreeBSD (core stuff)
/pub/FreeBSD-archive (old stuff, old releases etc) and
/pub/FreeBSD-extras (things like extracted source trees etc).

Then the default expectations would be for a mirror to have /pub/FreeBSD
and the other stuff could be very limited and only as needed.

These could be seperate rsync/cvsup collections and things like
FreeBSD-extras could be mostly synthesized locally.
