This is the offending line:

 $ sed -ne 47p elf_rand.c
        arh = (struct ar_hdr *) (ar->e_rawfile + offset);

However, 'struct ar_hdr' is a collection of char[] arrays,
so I'm puzzled as to why GCC/arm thinks 'struct ar_hdr' has
an alignment requirement.

__alignof__(struct ar_hdr) appears to be '4' according
GCC/arm.
