I got the 0x200 port working many moons ago by adding the device joy0, but I'm betting the issue of your soundcard not working owes itself to the MPU not being recognized (MPU is the midi part of your soundcard...) In 4.X kernels, you might want to look to see if the devices are properly linked--I followed TFM, but it was written in 3.X days, so MAKEDEV'd snd1, and the computer willingly made all the symlinks point to audio1, midi1, etc. when I had a pcm0... (pnp sound cards were pcm1 in 3.X kernels...).
