Hopefully not in the slightest. I recently (4 days ago) took a 4.0-REL system up to -current with a straight 'make world'. That crossed over the binutils etc changes and there were no hiccups at all. I would expect 3.5-> 4.x to be similar now, and 4.x->5.x to be even more trivial than it used to be.
