  jdk-1.1.6 I believe has been ported to FreeBSD 2.2.7 and 3.0 ELF 
format, it is available at 
ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/FreeBSD/<yourversionhere>/packages/devel/jdk-1.1.6.tgz

after you download it, install it with pkg_add.
