Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.93.2i Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG This evening I trashed my password file (it was my own stupid fault!). Anyway, I shutdown and brought the system up single user, mounted all the filesystems and the 2nd CD, started /stand/sysinstall, and selected FIXIT but at the option screen (CD, floppy, holographic shell) none of the options worked. When I selected any of them all that happened was that the HD LED flashed. That was it. Nothing. I got round the problem by cp'ing ``passwd'' and ``master.passwd'' from the CD to /etc and running ``pwd_mkdb'', then ``vipw'' to add the other users, but why didn't FIXIT work? Is this a bug (if so it's pretty serious)?. -- FreeBSD - The Power To Serve http://www.freebsd.org My Webpage http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~markov _______________________________________________________________ Mark Ovens, CNC Apps Engineer, Radan Computational Ltd.
