The OS is probably inferred from the information the browser tells about itself in the HTTP header. See this http://people.freebsd.org/~3d/screenshots/chameleon.jpg and the three Netscape versions (FreeBSD, Linux, Win32) that run at once. > OTOH, if anyone has a compiled list of the most common plugins that work > under FreeBSD please could you post them here. I use the Linux netscape under FreeBSD for use with the FLASH plugin (animations work, sound works as well) or the RealAudio plugin. Even Win32 netscape is able to use the Win32 RealAudio plugin http://people.freebsd.org/~3d/screenshots/chameleon2.jpg I would prefer native FreeBSD versions, but let's face it, the FreeBSD version of the Netscape browser has even more bugs than the Linux version (which sucks itself regarding Java) - try it on Slashdot and it coredumps soon. There was a FreeBSD Flash plugin replacement, but at the time I tried it, it did not work. And we have no recent RealPlayer (one that groks G2 formatted streams) as well. To be honest I see not much light here. Possibly the best that might be achievable without support from the companies is getting a nice native built Mozilla that mangages to use Linux plugins.
