You could try deleting all partitions, and then creating a 500 MB root partition, 300MB /tmp, 200MB /var, and a 5GB /usr. Note that I kept root under 528MB, due to BIOS boot restrictions. Also, be sure to set the disk's mode in BIOS to LBA. Unix systems measure "uptime" in years, Winblows measures it in minutes.
