(Oddly, depending on which bus I plug = the device into, it's either the waiting to exit message loop or a silent hang.) Userspace does not have the ability to respond at all when the detach is happening because of suspend! Now, the workaround is (of course) kldunload snd_uaudio in /etc/rc.suspend = and kldload snd_uaudio in /etc/rc.resume.
