Yes dumb terminals work fine with FreeBSD. Yes they are easy to hook up if you know what is to be done? Do you know about getty? Do you know about RS-232 serical communications? How to pin the DB-9/RJ-45 couplers? Know about flow control: software XON/XOFF or hardware flow control? Are you familiar with your serial terminal? How to configure it? It isn't that hard to do.
