You will have to ask the maintainers of the VDA patch whether both
platforms are supported for the 2.8.x patch.  In the past, they
distributed a different patch for both platforms, which is why the
comment is in the Makefile.  I can remove it if it no longer applies;
please feel free to send-pr.
