That is certainly something not against you.  However, try using a less
"stripped" down version of command output, when you post commands,
because it might be a little hard to guess which line is your input, and 
which is output you got.  Try something like:

	# ps ax | grep lpd
	1630  p1  D+     0:00.02 grep lpd

On the printer topic now...  It might be a bit helpful to send your
relevant /etc/printcap entry, along with a small explanation of what you
expect it to do.

Other changes to the filters used for printing, could probably help in
understanding what's wrong.

But, just a silly question... when you talk directly to your printer,
using /dev/lpt0 does it actually print what you send?
