It could also call itself a controlerless modem, Soft Modem, HSP Modem or not 
identify itself at all just never say anything on the dox about DOS, 
Linux/UNIX/BSD.......
Be very careful to check that at some place on the box it states that it is 
for DOS/Linux/UNIX....etc.
You might try doing a search for the LinModems site. They are working on 
being able to use winmodems on non-winders platforms.
