Either the one prepackaged or recompiling from ports it does not work. The behaviour is XFree86 keeping 100% CPU and nothing happens, nothing written in the log files. I fiexed the problem installing XFree86-4.2.0 but I had to borrow it from FreeBSD-4.7-RELEASE becuse there is no XFree86-4.2.0 on FreeBSD-4.8-RELEASE, either I found no way to compile XFree86-4.2.0 from ports since XFree86-4.3.0 is shipped in ports for FreeBSD-4.8-RELEASE. This is just my experience. Anyone running XFree86 on XP1000 could confirm it?? As well XFree86-4.3.0 does not work on my XP1000 trying with FreeBSD-5.0-RELEASE so it looks like a XFree86 issue an not a RELEASE related issue. thanks very much Rick
