Hello, It sounds as though your problem is due to the name of the directory containing the distribution. The name you should put in the 'release name' field on the options screen is just the directory name the install program cd's to to find the 'bin' directory. Setting it to none makes it look in /bin. If your bin directory is in /FreeBSD/bin (or C:\FreeBSD\bin in DOS), try setting the release name to 'FreeBSD'. How did you download the distribution by the way? Did you use the automatic 'tar' feature of the FTP server? (i.e. type 'get 3.1-RELEASE.tar' even though this file does not appear in the directory listing). I've found this is the easiest way - it ensures you have everything you need. Don't forget to untar it before burning a CD or copying to C: though.
