I have two AMD K6-2 boxes currently both of which work fine. BUT on one of them if I use the loader then I get crashes, unrecoverable disc errors and all sorts of nasty things. Booting straight into the kernel is fine, I can run forever under heavy load. On the other machine I have no problems at all with or without loader. See if not using the loader makes any difference, if so there may be something trackable.
