Depends on what you're doing.  Squid can be configured to 'collaborate'
in the caching process with neighboring proxy servers for running a
cache farm.  It can also handle FTP, making it a pretty good cache
host for web-browsing LAN users.

I'm not experienced with Apache's Proxy Module.
