Should be, assuming you won't be connected to the wide Internet. You can
use fake names just fine, just stick them in /etc/hosts and set
/etc/host.conf to do `hosts' before `bind'.

Why not?  It's not visible by anyone but yourself, and you can always use
a Reply-To: line in your mails to make sure they go to the correct place.
