Device ed1 is a "pseudo" device compiled into the network code, so you 
won't see an entry in /dev.  However you can do

	ifconfig -a

to see what network devices are configured...  If ed1 was probed it 
should show up there.  Note that you can look at /var/log/messages to see 
your boot log to make sure all devices were properly probed during boot.
