If you want the Release version, it's version 4.2. The preferred method to get FreeBSD is to buy the CD-ROMs from Walnut Creek. Supports the developers, too. If you want to install from Internet and got a leased line (no dialup connection), it's easiest to download the boot floppies (2 of them), boot off them, then choose a server near you to do the installl.
