I guess Ceri has a patch for this in the `css' branch in Perforce. My
current branch of that code is already very different, thought I'm
working on getting it to be a bit more friendly at lower screen
resolutions.

I don't think the diffs with the <span> tags are very large, and they've
helped keep the diffs with my really big modifications surprisingly
small.
