Hmm.. well I wrote the FAQ and maintain that page you went to, can you send me your /boot/loader.conf file? If its short ( < 10 lines, which it should be) just stick it in the message. Also, what did you name the bitmap file and what directory did you stick it in? Finally, are you using the "VM86" or VESA kernel options, and do you get any errors in your dmesg regarding splash screens?
