I did have I never had a problem. I have FreeBSD on the second partition on the slave drive on the secondary controller, and it boots and run fine. I've been using it that way for the past 5 years, on three different motherboards. I may be wrong, but that problems seem more of a "pilot error" than a FreeBSD-specific problem.
