I read bktr_audio.c / bktr_carc.c and tried building a kernel with BKTR_OVERRIDE_MSP=1 with no luck (trying to bypass the audio mux code). Looking at the card (and knowing nothing about it) I do not see any obvious MSP or DPL looking audio chips. I do see an Altera FPGA, a Conexant Fusion 878A capture chip, and a VTech Kfir chip which I believe is an MPEG encoder. FWIW here is the verbose dmesg output (with me not force/overriding anything): bktr0: mem 0xec100000-0xec100fff irq 17 at device 6.0 on pci0 brooktree0: PCI bus latency is 32. bktr0: buffer size 3555328, addr 0x5000000 bktr0: GPIO is 0x00ffffff bktr0: subsystem 0x0070 0x4500 bktr0: Hauppauge Model 45231 D323 bktr0: Hauppauge WinCast/TV, Philips FR1236 NTSC FM tuner. bktr0: msp34xx: init: chip=MSP34255?-?31, has NICAM support pci0: at device 6.1 (no driver attached) And here fxtv's -debug startup output: DETECTED CAPTURE CARD(S) [DRIVER PROBES]: bktr0: mem 0xec100000-0xec100fff irq 17 at device 6.0 on pci0 brooktree0: PCI bus latency is 32. bktr0: buffer size 3555328, addr 0x5000000 bktr0: GPIO is 0x00ffffff bktr0: subsystem 0x0070 0x4500 bktr0: Hauppauge Model 45231 D323 bktr0: Hauppauge WinCast/TV, Philips FR1236 NTSC FM tuner. bktr0: msp34xx: init: chip=MSP34255?-?31, has NICAM support bktr0: msp3400: thread started ata0-slave: pio=0x0c wdma=0x22 udma=0x42 cable=40pin SYSCTL MIB VALUES: kern.version: FreeBSD 5.2.1-RELEASE-p10 #7: Mon Sep 27 19:18:46 PDT 2004 root@jukebox.smg:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/JUKEBOX hw.bt848.card: -1 hw.bt848.tuner: -1 hw.bt848.reverse_mute: -1 hw.bt848.format: -1 hw.bt848.slow_msp_audio: -1 hw.bt848.stereo_once: 0 hw.bt848.amsound: 0 hw.bt848.dolby: 0 TUNER SIGNATURE (0x01 - 0xff): 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ff 00 02 00 00 00 TUNER I2C DEVICES FOUND AT: 0xa0, 0xa2, 0xa4, 0xa6, 0xa8, 0xaa, 0xac, 0xae, 0xc2 CAPTURE CARD EEPROM CONTENTS: Read 256 EEPROM bytes (0x00 - 0xff) 84 12 00 00 05 50 0e 7f 08 17 23 af b0 93 34 91 00 00 00 00 05 84 0a 00 01 01 20 77 00 40 20 fc 40 00 74 02 01 8a 03 79 4a 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 45 00 00 70 84 12 00 00 05 50 0e 7f 08 17 23 af b0 93 34 91 00 00 00 00 05 84 0a 00 01 01 20 77 00 40 20 fc 40 00 74 02 01 8a 03 79 4a 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 45 00 00 70 SUPPORTED FREQUENCY SETS: 1 nabcst 2 cableirc 3 cablehrc 4 weurope 5 jpnbcst 6 jpncable 7 xussr 8 australia 9 france Supported RGB Capture Pixel Formats: bpp Bpp RGB Masks Swap --- --- ---------------------------- ---- 15 2 00007c00, 000003e0, 0000001f NB 16 2 0000f800, 000007e0, 0000001f NB 24 3 00ff0000, 0000ff00, 000000ff B 24 4 00ff0000, 0000ff00, 000000ff NBWb Supported YUV Capture Pixel Formats: YUVSize HSamp VSamp Pack CompOrder T->B L->R YTrans ------- ----- ----- ------ --------- ---- ---- ------ 8,8,8 1,2,2 1,1,1 PLANAR YUV Y Y N 8,8,8 1,2,2 1,1,1 PACKED YUYV Y Y N 8,8,8 1,2,2 1,2,2 PLANAR YUV Y Y N I'm out of ideas at this point.
