Are you using it in SMP mode??? because that is where the problems starts...
Inter processor interrupts get lost, and other syncronisation is not 
handled correctly.
And lots of panics become a way of life.

Sorry if I forgot to mention that in a previous post, but I thought that 
that was the original precondition of the question.
